The Lord has given Cindy several lives, figuratively speaking. After traveling a rocky road between a few families, and becoming a high school drop-out, she finally graduated. She was accepted to a visual arts program at Interlochen Center for the Arts for two summers while she was a very busy college student for the rest of the year, until the Lord called her be a full-time missionary.
Cindy Horner served for twelve years in an international interdenominational Christian ministry with which she traveled and worked in twenty-three countries and thirty States in the USA. The organization, which had over 500 members, used the Dramatic Arts and dance as a communication tool in churches, prisons, nursing homes, military bases, and a university cafeteria or two where she learned that root beer and decaf-coffee tastes pretty good together.
When she came home from the ministry, she rebooted her college path only to find out she missed mission life, but not the suitcase. She joined the US Navy as a Religious Program Specialist for five years. She was stationed at Beaufort Naval Hospital, then at Parris Island Recruit Depot as a lesion between the injured recruits and the chaplains office.
The Navy gave Cindy the chance to hop a military flight to Switzerland to visit a friend and unexpectantly met her soon-to-be Swiss husband. When her military days were over, she moved there to be with him and stayed for twenty years! During that time, she got her BA in Secondary Education & English and got a diploma from London Art College with distinction in drawing and painting. She taught Dramatic Arts at Neuchatel Jr. College and English as a foreign language at Balkan School of Languages.
While she earned a salary, she also continued her Christian work and expanded her faith foundation by taking theology courses at Univ. of Freiburg, Switzerland and was quite involved in her local church, helped lead children’s Bible camps, taught workshops on Prayer Through Painting, and couples’ prayer and was an active member of the Chemin Neuf Community, headquartered in Lyon, France. Her husband was the Swiss delegate for all of the French-speaking charismatic prayer groups in Switzerland, so she worked diligently by his side at international conferences around Europe and national prayer assemblies until her husband retired. They moved to the USA where they continue to be heavily involved at church while she continues to work in the classroom as a substitute teacher and in home healthcare. She hopes to do workshops to encourage others to share their faith-expanding experiences.
